NCaved is located on a small secluded rocky cove seemingly hovering just above sea level. The need to create a protected shelter, at a location of disarming view, but openly exposed to strong north winds, led us to the decision to drill the slope, instead of arranging a set of spaces in line at ground level. We applied a rectangular grid to the slope to produce a three-dimensional “chessboard” of solids and voids. This strict geometry is discontinued with the rotation of the last axis of the grid, which provides the living area with ampler view. Shifting the axis intensifies the sense of perspective significantly, and thus the imprint of the residence appears minimized at the conceptual end of the ascent.

NCaved坐落於一個看似正懸浮於海平面上方的僻靜小岩灣上。由於建地視野毫無遮蔽，必須設計出防護良善的屏障，又因暴露在強烈的北風下，導致我們決定放棄沿著地面安排空間的想法，而以下鑿斜坡取代。我們在斜坡上設計了一個矩形網格，創造出一個實虛交錯的立體「棋盤」。但棋盤方正的線條因網格最後一個軸線移動而中斷，這是為了讓起居區擁有更寬廣的視野。軸線偏移會顯著增強透視感，因此在上升斜面的尾端，便可減少曝露住戶的活動足跡。
