This is the world's longest driverless transit system, covering 176 kilometers and 85 stations, connecting Riyadh's key business districts and cultural landmarks. Planned by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), the fully automated rapid transit system aims to alleviate traffic, shorten commuting times, and improve the quality of life for city residents.

Zaha Hadid ArchitectsZHA)設計的 KAFD 地鐵站作為核心換乘點,連結總站、國王哈立德國際機場及當地單軌電車,六座軌道月台橫跨四層樓,並無縫銜接巴士與停車換乘系統,打造多模式交通樞紐與全新公共廣場。

The KAFD Metro Station, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA), serves as a key interchange, linking the main terminal, King Khalid International Airport, and the local monorail. The station features six rail platforms across four levels, seamlessly integrating with bus and park-and-ride systems, creating a multi-modal transport hub and a new public plaza.

車站設計源自於對交通流量的精確計算,創造出三維格狀結構。這一結構以正弦波曲線為特徵,貫穿整個建築,外立面則採用超高性能混凝土(UHPC)。立面上的幾何穿孔減少了陽光直射,提供了對傳統遮陽系統的現代詮釋。建築外觀靈感來自沙漠中風的紋理,通過多重頻率的重疊,創造出一種動態流動的形態。

 

The station design stems from precise calculations of traffic flow, creating a sophisticated three-dimensional lattice structure. This is defined by sine-wave curves that run throughout the building, with an ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) exterior. Geometric perforations in the façade reduce sunlight exposure, offering a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional shading systems. The appearance is inspired by natural desert wind patterns, with multiple frequencies overlapping to create a dynamic, flowing form that blends seamlessly with its surroundings.

The architectural structure emphasizes balance through repetition, symmetry, and scale, improving construction efficiency while maintaining spatial quality. The self-supporting exterior and internal support structure for the train platforms are seamlessly integrated, presenting a unified and smooth architectural language. High-performance design strategies, coupled with a renewable energy-powered smart cooling system, automatically adjust energy consumption and maintain cool air within the station through sliding door panels, creating a comfortable and sustainable transit environment.

KAFD 地鐵站不僅重塑了城市的交通網絡,還作為利雅得實現成為智慧、永續城市願景的見證,其流暢的建築語言引領著未來的方向。

 

The KAFD Metro Station not only reshapes the city's transportation network but also serves as a testament to Riyadh's vision of becoming a smart, sustainable city, with its fluid architectural language guiding the way.
