COMPLUVIUM serves as a metaphor for water, highlighting the frequent rainfall throughout the year in Rouen and the Canteleu forest. On one hand, it stands out with its clear geometric form, creating a stark contrast to the natural surroundings. On the other hand, the use of linen and fiberglass skins allows its appearance to transform when touched by light, eventually blending seamlessly into the landscape.

The project aims to create a spatial experience that originates from within, enabling users to sense the presence of water in the forest and thereby elevating the intrinsic qualities of the materials. Unlike conventional shelters designed to repel rain, this structure is conceived as a sanctuary for water. The entire structure is based on a virtual cube measuring five meters in length, width, and height, with a central space at its core. The inward-sloping roof gathers rainwater at the pavilion’s center, a design inspired by the atrium of ancient Roman houses and the centuries-old rainwater harvesting techniques of Senegal's Diola community. This synthesis creates a new interpretation of a “spatial artifact,” inviting people to reflect and appreciate the beauty of rainwater.

The design employs only three materials: wood, linen, and fiberglass. The pinewood structural framework provides essential support for the volume, while fiberglass with resin serves as a waterproof membrane, allowing light to penetrate while ensuring long-term durability. Locally produced linen fabric, used for both the interior and exterior skins, distinguishes the two surfaces with a thoughtful contrast: the exterior is treated with a black protective coating, while the interior retains its natural hue. This interplay creates a striking duality between the "shell" and the “interior,” enriching the spatial experience with nuanced layers of texture and light.
