L’Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped is viewed for 16 days, from Saturday, September 18 to Sunday, October 3, 2021. Per Christo’s request, the project will be completed by his team in partnership with the Centre des monuments nationaux (CMN), the government institution that manages the Arc de Triomphe, and in coordination with the City of Paris.

The Arc de Triomphe will be wrapped in 25,000 square meters of recyclable, silvery blue polypropylene fabric and with 3,000 meters of recyclable red polypropylene rope. L’Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped is being entirely funded by the Estate of Christo V. Javacheff through the sale of Christo’s original artworks, including preparatory studies, collages, drawings as well as scale models, works from the 1950s and 1960s and lithographs. Like all of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s projects, it will receive no public funds or sponsorships. The project was originally conceived in 1961 and in 1962, Christo created a photomontage of the wrapping of the Arc de Triomphe. In 1988, he did a collage. He began actively developing this project in 2017. 60 years later, it will finally be realized. The Eternal Flame, in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arc de Triomphe, will continue to burn throughout the preparation and display of the artwork. The daily ceremony of rekindling the flame will take place with all its usual solemnity. The monument and its terrace will stay accessible to the public during the installation, exhibition and dismantling of the work.

凱旋門將被 2.5 萬平方公尺、可再生利用的銀藍色聚丙烯不織布完全包覆，再由相同材質、長 3000 公尺的紅繩層層纏繞。按照克里斯多和妻子珍妮․克勞德（Jeanne-Claude）過往的慣例，「包覆凱旋門」的一切經費由藝術家的創作所得支應，並將婉拒民間的捐款和贊助。資金是由出售各式原創作品得來，包含前期的研究資料、拼貼圖、手繪稿、比例模型、石版畫，以及 50 至 60 年代的藝術創作。克里斯多遠在 1961 年時，就已經開始此作品的發想。 1962 年先是創作了「包覆凱旋門」的蒙太奇，而後在 1988 年製作了拼貼圖。 2017 年起，克里斯托積極規劃，希望能促成作品問世。從發想開始六十年，包覆凱旋門終於要在今年登場。在佈置和展示期間，凱旋門之下、無名烈士墓前的永恆火焰（The Eternal Flame）將不受影響，持續燃燒。每日紀念殉國戰士的儀式也會照常舉行。凱旋門和觀景台從開始佈置到撤展為止，都將對外持續開放。
