【2025 曼谷設計週】Mega Mat 巨型編織墊
2025 年曼谷設計週的核心地段——Lan Khon Mueang 市民廣場上，MVRDV 創造出一座結合環保思考與社區場域功能的展示作品——Mega Mat。它不僅是一座極具視覺吸引力的裝置，更為一幅占地 860 平方米的資訊圖表，講述著泰國塑膠廢棄物的統計數據與回收處理的過程。
At the heart of Bangkok Design Week 2025, in Lan Khon Mueang Town Square, MVRDV has unveiled Mega Mat—a striking installation that merges environmental consciousness with public space functionality. More than just a visually captivating piece, this 860-square-meter creation serves as a living infographic, illustrating the statistics and processes of plastic waste recycling in Thailand.
泰國每年產生約 200 萬噸塑膠廢棄物，這一問題日益受到社會關注。政府與產業界正積極推動減少塑膠使用與提高回收率的政策。MVRDV 順應這股潮流，透過 Mega Mat 展現回收材料的多重可能性，讓公眾以更直觀的方式理解環保的重要性。
裝置的設計靈感源自泰國傳統的 Sua—— 一種編織墊，是泰國家庭長久以來的生活重要元素，人們會在上面休憩、用餐、聚會。設計師將此一極具文化象徵性的物件放大至城市尺度，運用 532 塊由回收塑膠製成的模組化編織墊，組合成一張巨型編織墊，讓整座城市都能參與其中。每塊墊子皆織入傳統泰式紋樣，不僅呼應地方文化，也展現環保設計與傳統工藝的結合。
Thailand generates approximately two million tons of plastic waste annually, a growing concern that has prompted government and industry efforts to reduce plastic consumption and increase recycling rates. Aligning with this movement, Mega Mat showcases the many possibilities of recycled materials, offering an intuitive and engaging way for the public to grasp the importance of sustainability.
Inspired by the Thai Sua—a traditional woven mat deeply embedded in daily life—Mega Mat elevates this cultural symbol to an urban scale. For generations, the Sua has been a central element in Thai households, used for resting, dining, and gathering. MVRDV amplifies its significance by assembling 532 modular mats made from recycled plastic, forming a supersized Sua that invites the entire city to interact with it. 這張巨型編織墊不僅提供座位與活動空間，更透過色彩的層次變化講述泰國塑膠廢棄物的去向：
外圍的紅色象徵被送往未妥善處理的掩埋場的塑膠廢棄物，橘色則代表進入正規掩埋場並受到有效管理的部分。向內過渡至黃色，標示那些尚未被回收、仍散落於環境中的塑膠，而最中心的綠色則象徵已成功回收並進入再利用循環的塑膠。這些色彩層層疊進，如同一幅環保意識的視覺地圖，使人們直觀理解塑膠廢棄物的最終歸宿，也與廣場後方寺廟的鮮豔屋頂色彩產生共鳴，將環保議題自然融入城市景觀。
The gradient of colors woven into Mega Mat tells the story of plastic waste in Thailand. The outermost red represents plastic waste that ends up in unsanitary landfills, while the orange section signifies waste that is properly managed in regulated landfills. Moving inward, yellow highlights plastic that remains uncollected and continues to pollute the environment. At the very center, green symbolizes plastic that has been successfully recycled and reintegrated into the circular economy. This layered arrangement creates a powerful visual narrative, making the waste cycle immediately comprehensible while echoing the vibrant hues of the nearby Wat Suthat Thepwararam temple roof, seamlessly blending environmental awareness with Bangkok’s urban landscape.
在裝置的一角，模組被抬升形成一個宛如寺廟屋頂的曲線，這片遮蔽空間內設有資訊展示，讓訪客了解泰國塑膠廢棄物的現況與回收歷程。展覽區讓人們認識這些塑膠墊的來源、製作過程及未來用途。當曼谷設計週結束，這些模組墊將被拆分，部分將捐贈給當地寺廟，部分轉化為瑜珈墊，甚至改造為手袋等日常用品，延續其環保價值。
One corner of the installation rises in a gentle curve reminiscent of a temple roof, forming a sheltered exhibition space. Here, visitors can learn about Thailand’s plastic waste crisis, recycling efforts, and the journey of the recycled plastic mats. After Bangkok Design Week concludes, Mega Mat will be dismantled, and its modular mats will find new life—some will be donated to local temples, others repurposed into yoga mats, and even transformed into everyday items like bags, extending their sustainability impact beyond the event.
