位於南布朗克斯、面對聖瑪麗公園的 NYPD 第 40 分局新總部，不僅取代了原先座落於138街的舊有設施，更賦予警察機構與社區之間嶄新的連結方式。由紐約市設計與建設局（DDC）於 2014 年委託規劃，這座涵蓋地下室的四層建築，首度於警局設置「社區會議室」，象徵著公共安全空間邁向更開放、參與式的城市願景。
Located in the South Bronx across from St. Mary's Park, the new NYPD 40th Precinct replaces the outdated station on 138th Street, introducing modern facilities that support community engagement, officer training, and wellness. Commissioned in 2014 by the New York Department of Design & Construction, the four-story, 45,000-square-foot building includes the city's first-ever community meeting room within a police precinct—marking a shift toward greater civic accessibility.
本案由比亞克．英格爾斯集團操刀設計，透過多個錯層量體堆疊，對應各自的功能分區，同時營造出開放且富有穿透感的空間語彙。建築外觀採用預鑄混凝土，表面交錯呈現噴砂與拋光處理，與背立面玻璃帷幕與金屬網材構成強烈對比。量體封閉而堅實，轉角處刻意以玻璃凹牆取代實牆，引入自然光線，為辦公區帶來明亮通透的視野；而一座挑高三層、約六十英呎的中庭天井，更讓自然光傾瀉入內。室內空間選用金屬音板天花、超高性能混凝土牆面，以及水磨石地坪，展現既簡潔，又具耐久性的現代空間設計。
Public artwork, a green roof, and high-efficiency systems contribute to the building's environmental performance, while emergency response facilities—including generators and fuel tanks—ensure operational continuity. The site was also regraded to remove obsolete structures and make way for over 1,000 new plantings, reinforcing the project's integration with its urban surroundings. Architecturally, the building is composed of distinct stacked volumes, each corresponding to a specific function. A precast concrete façade with alternating sandblasted and polished finishes offers a tactile contrast to the rear's reflective glass and metal mesh. Solid perimeter walls provide security, while recessed glazed corners introduce natural light and improve privacy for interior spaces.
社區會議室設於建築側翼，擁有獨立出入口與多元用途，牆面上錯落排列的圓形開孔，巧妙串聯室內外，同時保有適度隱私。機能規劃方面，分局內設有訓練、體能、壓力紓解與偵查等專區，滿足員警多元執勤需求。屋頂全面鋪設綠屋頂，除了提升節能效能，亦為各辦公區域引入綠意。此外，團隊更邀請美國藝術家傑佛瑞．吉布森以壁畫作品為全案注入鮮明的文化語彙。
At the heart of the building, a 60-foot-tall atrium connects all floors, bringing in daylight and fostering openness. Interior finishes include metal acoustic ceilings, ultra-high-performance concrete wall panels, and terrazzo flooring. The community room, with its own street-level entrance, supports events and programming aimed at encouraging civic participation. Its circular windows, arranged in a gradient pattern, provide subtle transparency and visual identity, complemented by a vibrant mural by artist Jeffrey Gibson.
全新分局在強化執法與安全機能的願景下，以更加開放、友善的姿態擁抱社區，成為新世代公共建築的典範。正如建築師比亞克．英格爾所言：「此案不僅是一座警局，更是一個屬於所有人的城市公共空間。
Additional amenities include fitness and relaxation zones, locker rooms, and specialized areas for detectives and domestic violence units. Offices overlook green roofs that enhance both visual comfort and energy performance, supporting the project's pursuit of LEED Gold certification and underscoring the city's ongoing commitment to sustainable design.
