"Halo" is a sculpture of pure lines, the union of engineering, architecture, and art. It answered the right questions and the questions were clear: is it possible to intervene without blinding the view from the central atrium of the new intermodal station? It is possible to create an elevated walkway as an extension of the public square, without disturbing the vision of the users? Is it inevitable for the people who live near the walkway to lose some of their privacy? And finally, can all these questions be resolved with a single gesture, a greeting to the visitor, and with zero consumption? The answer is simple, yes.
The tower plunges into the ground and anchors itself to it, hugging users and protecting them from the elements. The elevator tower is centered on the axis of the street, allowing the tower to visually communicate with both transport nodes and guide the visitor. To solve vertical communication, two elevators are designed for twenty-one people, reducing waiting time during rush hours and facilitating intramodality, allowing access to people on bicycles.
The project aims to facilitate the transversal permeability between García Barbón and Urzáiz. This walkway is understood as part of the public space, as an elevated street that leads to a large square, related to both the shopping center the train, and bus stations. One of the arms is covered, to preserve the privacy of the inhabitants of García Barbón towers. Thus, this part of the structure closes in on itself, while the other arm opens to offer the citizens impressive views of the Ría de Vigo.
Another important point was to avoid to the utmost any visual impact on the views from the central atrium of the intermodal, this great "oculus" that opens onto the estuary. The ring shape allows us to laterally move away from the atrium, leaving it as free as possible. Inside the tower, at a height of 30m above the ground, there are 4 shaft wind turbines to power the elevators, making them self-sufficient as much as possible. In parallel, the elevators are also connected to the public electricity supply network. The metallic skeleton, which would come in pre-formed parts, allows the rapid execution of the project. The structure will be covered with white lacquered sheet steel and laminated glass with white butyral, which will give it an image of lightness despite its dimensions. This metallic skeleton will remain visible inside the covered area of the walkway; in this way, during the day the clarity of the sun will bathe the inside of the covered arm, while at night the glass skin that covers the entire exterior cellar and the front of the elevator tower will be backlit to show the structure and the silhouettes of the users.

NOARQ is the name of a willingness of doing and thinking by hands. Since 1998, the studio evolved into an area of research, creation and production by drawing: for the land, architecture and everyday objects. Today it is located in Trofa, but it still maintains its roots in Porto.
