基地位於小鎮中心制高點，量體如同自山巔降臨，成為可自小鎮各處遠望的精神地標。基地北側臨近斷崖，可遠眺長城遺跡。設計團隊刻意弱化「建築」的形式語彙，轉而順應地景本身條件，延續山勢之貌。進而取意於傳統山水意象中的「飛來石」，將量體塑造成一塊向外延展、彷彿懸浮於山崖邊緣的巨石，使其與環境保持若即若離的關係，呈現出介於自然與人工之間的曖昧姿態。

Commissioned by Financial Street (Zunhua) Real Estate Development Co., Ltd. and designed by Wutopia Lab, The Rock — Cloud Center was completed in 2024. Located at the highest point of Ancient Spring Town in Zunhua, Tangshan, the project is conceived as a town-scale landmark, visible from afar and appearing as if it had descended from the sky. Designed between 2020 and 2024, the project encompasses architecture, interior, and landscape concepts by Wutopia Lab. Serving both as a spiritual landmark and a hotel facility, the building contains a swimming pool, gym, and indoor and outdoor hot spring pools, while also supplying hot spring water to nearby villas. The site's northern edge drops sharply like a cliff, opening expansive views toward the Great Wall.

內部空間遂以「洞穴」的結構概念展開，量體容納室內泳池、戶外溫泉池與健身房等機能配置。戶外溫泉池透過地形與植栽圍合，保有私密性，同時保留遠景視線；主要泳池設於量體核心位置，上方開設天窗，讓自然光線傾瀉而下，使光影隨時間流動於水面與牆體之上。夜間，燈光映照水面，塑造猶如浩瀚星空落於其中的效果。外部由光線啟發而生成的盤旋坡道穿越量體，串聯各空間層次，引導人們逐步登頂。行走期間，偶然浮現輕盈如飛的錯覺，遠方的長城景觀也在這過程中悄然顯現。

The design adopts a strategy of ''de-architecturalization.'' Inspired by the traditional Chinese notion of the flying rock—symbolizing transcendence and detachment—the building projects from the cliff as a hovering, stone-like volume. With the exterior form established, the interior follows a cave-like logic: a central swimming pool sits beneath a skylight, drawing daylight onto the water and animating the space with reflected light. A spiraling ramp rises through the rock to the roof, gradually revealing views of Zunhua and the Great Wall. Finished in soft greywhite tones and continuous curved surfaces, the interior reads as an abstracted cave shaped by light, water, and shadow. The gym overlooks the pool from above, while outdoor hot spring pools are screened by terrain and vegetation, ensuring privacy without sacrificing distant views.

在構造與技術層面，為控制成本與施工複雜度，外觀採用「卵石」形態，以曲面金屬板拼接完成，有效弱化縱向線條，使粗糲的棱角更為顯著，繼而降低三維曲面加工需求。外層金屬殼體包覆具防水與保溫性能的核心結構，中間形成可供通行的屋頂步道。此外，考量基地位於高震度地帶，部分帷幕結構同時承擔結構補強角色；大量設備空間則被隱入山體景觀之中，以維持視覺整潔。泳池空間挑高達九公尺，管線系統皆配合橢圓形平面逐一整合，設計團隊透過BIM技術反覆協調，以克服複雜條件。本案讓建築成為一種感知體驗⸺在山體、時間與自然條件的作用下，持續變幻不同面貌。

The building comprises three levels: a ground-floor lobby and services, pools and changing facilities on the second floor, and a gym above. To reduce cost and construction complexity, the original rock form was simplified into a pebble-like geometry using two-dimensional curved metal panels rather than complex three-dimensional cladding. A perforated metal shell encloses a waterproof, insulated core—only the core counts toward floor area—allowing a rooftop ramp to pass through the cavity without encroaching on interior space. The project posed significant technical challenges. Nearly half of the 900-square-meter structure is dedicated to utilities, embedded into the mountainside to preserve the rock's visual lightness. Located in a Grade-8 seismic zone, the cantilevered form required structural reinforcement integrated into the curtain wall system. Waterproofing, smoke exhaust, and MEP coordination—particularly around the elliptical pool hall—were resolved through extensive sectional studies, BIM modeling, and close on-site collaboration. After four years of design and construction, The Rock stands as a built experiment—resisting repetition and seeking meaning through form, light, and experience.
